About St.John's Church Pre-School

The Nursery is run by a voluntary Church Constitution Committee and the Nursery’s philosophy is based on Christian values, placing respect and value on each individual.  The children are encouraged to assess acceptable risk and challenge, which enables them to problem solve and gain confidence giving them better life chances. Children can be observed regularly out in the community using the local community facilities.

The nursery is registered with OFSTED and accommodates 60 children each day from 2 to 5 years.

Our staff have recognised qualifications, are First Aid trained, attend a minimum of 12 hours educational training per year to keep informed of evolving practices and policies and undertake Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks before commencing employment. The nursery uses tapestry as an online journal to record children's progress, accessible by parents.

 Children going to the park
Your child will be offered Educational visits to explore the local community and further afield.  We may ask some parents to vounteer their time on these trips, to ensure we maintain safe ratios and allow the children to have a fun filled trip!

The Nursery practitioners follow the statutory framework of the Early Years Foundation Stage guidance, encouraging development and learning from birth to 5 years.  The framework ensures that all children have access to a range of activities that promote all areas of learning.

Opening Times

The nursery is open from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday (term time only). We offer full-time, part-time and sessional care.

Breakfast Café
  Day Time Room
Breakfast Café Monday - Thursday 8.30 - 9.00 Church
Friday 8.30 - 9.00 Front Hall

The nursery offers this facility every morning, allowing parents and children to wait in the warm and dry, and have the opportunity to socialise with other parents and carers.

Fund Raising

Money raised throughout the year enables us to buy additonal equipment, or replace resources that have become outdated. Some money is also used to subsidise trips and Social gatherings for the Children, such as a Christmas Party. We hope that all parents will encourage and support their children and us with these events.

Key person

Your child will be allocated a Key Person when they enrol. This enables a continuity of care for your child and a friendly familiar face for you both. Settling-in sessions will be arranged at enrolment so you and your child can get to know your key person. The key person will give you a “Start Out” bag to take home from these sessions for you to continue that play in-between the settling-in sessions. This will include an activity for you and your child to do and a photograph of the key person so you can remind your child what their special person at nursery looks like.
The key person will help your child to develop their individual potential through the Early Years foundation stage ciriculum and record this on the online journal through Tapestry.

Informal chats with your child’s key person are encouraged by the Nursery team; these ensure celebrations of daily achievements or sharing of any information which may affect your child’s well-being.
